North of the neighborhood on No. 1 Road is a grocery store, Starbucks, and a few different restaurants. It's less than 15 minutes from the Quilchena neighborhood to Alexandra Road, nicknamed Food Street due to the 200+ restaurants located there. Individuals can enjoy delicious barbecue from The Clay Pot Hot Pot and BBQ, delicious seafood with an Asian flair from Sun Sui Wah Seafood, or sushi from Mutsuyama Japanese. Transportation

Although Quilchena isn't set up in a grid like some of the other Richmond neighborhoods, it still isn't difficult to access nearby locations. No. 1 Road provides access to Granville Avenue, Blundell Road and Westminster Highway, all of which are main through roads. Accessing No. 2 Road from any of these will enable travel to Sea Island and the Vancouver International Airport. Highway 99 and Highway 91 (both accessed from Westminster Highway) allow access to nearby cities, including Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster. TransLink provides buses which take regular routes through Richmond, and a bus stop is available on Moresby Drive. The SkyTrain also provides rapid transit to downtown Vancouver from the Brighouse Station on No. 3 Road, just over 5 kilometers from Quilchena.

Schools

Children in the Quilchena neighborhood attend the R M Grauer Elementary School, which feeds into the J N Burnett Secondary School. These are within walking distance for many families, and those who desire public school alternatives can take advantage of St. Joseph the Worker Elementary and Richmond Christian School, both of which are high quality private schools. As far as higher-learning goes, Richmond has some great options: Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the satellite location of Sprott Shaw College both offer several degrees in a huge variety of programs. Those interested in aerospace technology can take advantage of courses near the Vancouver International Airport by the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

The Arts

Quilchena residents have a lot of options when it comes to the arts. New residents should take the time to check out Richmond's collection of free public art; there are over 65 public art pieces created by more than 80 artists and they are dotted throughout the city. Just minutes from the Quilchena neighborhood is the Octopus Garden installation, located at the Riviera Gardens Condiminium. This beautiful piece is created from ceramic tile is and is truly impressive. Another is the Light Ring which is located at the Terra Nova Shopping Centre, and is a metal and LED masterpiece that changes color every few hours. The Richmond Cultural Centre offers maps with the locations of all the public art installations.

For those who want a more traditional art setting, the Richmond Cultural Centre is a great place to start. The first floor contains a wonderful exhibit celebrating the history and culture of Richmond, including vintage photographs and artifacts. On the second floor is the Richmond Art Gallery, where exhibits showcase beautiful contemporary art from local and national artists. The Gateway Theatre is also a fantastic option for Quilchena residents. Shows are held regularly, ranging from dramas to comedies to live music, and families can take a variety of art courses, from voice and acting lessons to live musical theater lessons.

Recreation/Sports

One of the best recreational options in Richmond is situated directly next to the Quilchena neighborhood; the Quilchena Golf & Country Club. For golf aficionados, the 6,781-yard course – sprawling over 120 acres of stunningly maintained tees, fairways and greens – is an absolute paradise. Extensive practice facilities and a PGA-certified professional staff are available to provide instruction for those who request it. In addition to this, there is a wonderful restaurant and clubhouse featuring gorgeous views of the 9th and 18th holes. Social events are often held here, from holiday parties and barbecues to special dinners. Children can take part in junior golf classes and competitions as well.

Plenty of other options for recreation can be found in Richmond, including a variety of parks and green spaces, the $178 million CAD Richmond Oval recreation center, the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse and the River Rock Casino Resort. Being a coastal town, there is no end to the available fishing and water sport activities residents can enjoy within the area. The Quilchena Neighborhood Park is another excellent option very nearby; it is a 12.14 acre park that includes a sports field and 2 baseball diamonds, a playground and a fun network of pathways to explore.
