Vernon has lots of open and wooded spaces surrounding it. The city has made the best use of nature’s bounty by developing many beautiful and spacious parks, like Rocky Ridge Park, Nature Reserve Swan Lake and Polson Park. The Heritage Park is a neighbourhood play area with slides and swings for kids. If you love to hike, mountain bike, or run on trails, then the Adventure Bay Trail, Grey Canal Trail Foothills and BX Creek & Falls Trail are less than half an hour’s drive away from the city center. About an hour’s drive away is the iconic Okanagan High Rim Trail, where you can get gorgeous views of the Valley after a rewarding climb. About 25 miles away is the gorgeous Killiney Beach, which makes for a great weekend trip from home. For honey aficionados, the Planet Bee Honey Farm and Honeymoon Meadery is delightful. You can see live honeycombs, learn about the honey collection process and taste authentic Okanagan Valley honey. Movie and theatre buffs will find the town delightful too. Galaxy Cinemas Vernon and the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre are located near the town centre and screen various titles year-round. The town has a cultural district where the Vernon Cadet Camp Museum, Vernon Public Art Gallery and Greater Vernon Museum and Archives are located. They make for an excellent weekend visit with the kids.
