Cherryville Real Estate & Homes For Sale
If you are looking for a home within a small, friendly and homely community, then Cherryville is the ideal place to be. Cherryville is an unincorporated community that resides at the foothills of the Monashee Mountains in British Columbia. With a population of approximately 930, this lovely area is situated 14 miles east of Lumby, along Highway 6. Between 1863 and 1895, the original town (now known as Cherryville) was a small mining camp, with a population of just 100 people back then, half of who were Chinese miners. The area is known for the wild chokecherries that grow there. It was named “Cherryville” in 1919 on the recommendation of the then-postmistress who was probably inspired by the wild Chokecherries. Formerly an area of orchards, this quiet area now consists of housing and accommodation, restaurants, the Okanagan Regional Library, the Cherryville Museum, a campground, general stores, shops, and other amenities. The Cherryville residents are very close-knit – the perfect place to make new friends. Most of the residents are descendants of homesteading families who have formed a close bond over the years, sharing a common love for this special place that they call home.
