Transportation

While Ironwood residents are within walking distance of a variety of amenities, most people still prefer to drive. Three bridges within the city connect to surrounding towns, including Vancouver, New Westminster, and Surrey. Highway 99 and Highway 91 freeways connect with Interstate 5 and surrounding towns, and Richmond Centre offers the Canada Line and SkyTrain rapid transit options to downtown Vancouver. Throughout the city of Richmond, TransLink buses provide transportation to a huge number of stops. It's also not uncommon to see Ironwood residents biking to their destinations. On Sea Island is the Vancouver International Airport, providing most of the region's air access.

Schools

The city of Richmond offers up a plethora of public elementary and secondary schools, conveniently located in every neighbourhood. The Shellmont area is served by 3 elementary schools, the Richmond Christian School, and the Matthew McNair Secondary School.

The Arts

One of the things every resident of Ironwood should see is the variety of public art works available throughout Richmond, such as the Water Sky Garden located at the Olympic Oval. Ironwood and Shellmont are home to several neighbourhood parks that residents can access easily. Fantasy Gardens located at Steveston Highway and Highway 99 is a wonderful place to reconnect with nature, while a bike path along Williams Road allows residents to stay active. The Riverport Entertainment Park is an excellent location for those who want a variety of fun activities to take advantage of, and includes a skate park, an IMAX Theater, a pool, bowling alley and more. With the 2010 Winter Olympics taking place in Vancouver, the City of Richmond built an 8,000-seat speed skating oval which now serves as an excellent recreation center.
