Transportation

A TransLink bus runs right through the neighbourhood, with frequent stops. Lougheed Highway is also accessible from Cottonwood, which leads to important areas of the city, and Highway 7 runs just outside the neighbourhood. The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is located less than 3 kilometres from Maple Ridge.

Schools

Children living in the Cottonwood area attend Kanaka Creek Elementary or Golden Ears Elementary, depending upon where they live in the neighbourhood, and both schools feed into Thomas Haney Secondary School. This particular secondary school¬¬ is known for offering customized learning plans to students which have been deemed more successful than general plans. In addition to the public schools, Maple Ridge offers several private school options for parents, and higher-learning institutes such as Sprott Shaw University.

The Arts

The Acts Arts Centre is just minutes from the Cottonwood neighbourhood, and is a hub of art activity in Maple Ridge. Locals visit often to take in live shows or to join classes teaching 2D drawing, pottery and more. Live performances can also be seen at the Poscenium and Black Box Studio Theatres, while the Maple Ridge Gallery showcases some brilliant art created by local artists and students. Cottonwood residents have the benefit of their own virtual oasis located in the southern area of the neighbourhood. The Kanaka Creek offers up plenty of fishing and water sports options while the Trans Canada Trail provides the perfect place for cycling, hiking and exploring. Residents can access the trail from the western end of 110th Avenue, right before it runs into 237th Street. Outside of the neighbourhood, Golden Ears Park provides an excellent area for all outdoor activities and sports; more than 150,000 acres as well as a network of trails and hundreds of campsites call to thrill-seekers all over British Columbia.

Those who are truly seeking thrills can find them by skydiving with Pacific Skydivers located at the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport. Skateboarders can practice their favourite tricks at the Thomas Haney Skateboarding Park, while families check out WildPlay, an exciting adventure course featuring suspension bridges and Tarzan-style swinging ropes. Overall, residents of Cottonwood have no shortage of exciting recreational activities to enjoy.
