The tiny community of West Meadows in the western area of Pitt Meadows, sandwiched between Lougheed Highway which is to the northeast, circled by parts of scenic Pitt River, and slightly northwest of the neighbouring community of Central Meadows.

Pitt Meadows has an estimated population of 17,710 (2011), which is expected to increase to over 20,000 by the year 2020, according to the 2011 Census Information Report. The report also concluded that the projected population growth is due in part to a “significant increase in multifamily units” currently being built, as well as future housing projects. Median household income of residents in Pitt Meadows is approximately $73,065 (2015), with the income of British Columbia residents being around $74,150 (2013).

Employment

Though primarily residential—85% of residents commute to work outside of the city—the main industries in Pitt Meadows are education and health services (19%), food/beverage/hotel (16%), and construction (9%). Agricultural employment in the area includes farming and crops, specifically cranberry and blueberry farms.

The city’s top three employers are School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, the Meadowtown Centre shopping mall, and farming.

Residents and visitors of the West Meadows community are close to great dining venues, such as Austin House Fish & Chips, Boston Pizza, Jai Plus Fusion Café, Sango Japanese Restaurant, Pita Pit, Firehall Bistro, Opa Souvlaki of Greece, Papa Leo’s Pizza, and Akasaka Japanese. Restaurants located in nearby Maple Ridge and other surrounding areas include Golden Ears Cheesecrafters, GM Restaurant, Big Feast Restaurant, Smile Thai Cuisine, Ridge Brewing, and Billy Miner Alehouse & Café.

There are also lots of great shopping venues in and around Pitt Meadows, such as Meadowtown Centre which borders with nearby Maple Ridge, Meadowvale Shopping Centre (at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Harris Road), Haney Place Mall, ValleyFair Mall, Guilford Shopping Mall (located in Surrey), Dewdney Trunk Shopping Complex, Willowbrook Shopping Centre (in nearby Langley), and Downtown Maple Ridge. There are also several individual retail stores dotting Lougheed Highway, which is located slightly north and east of West Meadows.

Transportation

The city of Pitt Meadows has several transportation options, including West Coast Express commuter trains connecting the city to Vancouver and Mission, Golden Ears Bridge connects Pitt Meadows to Langley and Surrey, and the Pitt River Bridge connects residents to Port Coquitlam, located just west of Pitt Meadows.
West Meadows is also home to the Pitt Meadows Airport, a small airport that offers local and regional flights as well as boasting a skydiving school.

Schools

Pitt Meadows currently is served by School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, with four elementary schools and one secondary school located within the city. The four elementary schools are Edith McDermott Elementary, Davie Jones Elementary, Pitt Meadows Elementary, and Highland Park Elementary. Pitt Meadows Secondary School is popular in the area for its sports programs, including football, basketball, and hockey.

Located within 45 km of Pitt Meadows are several colleges and universities, such as Ridge Meadows College, Langara College, Douglas College, Trinity Western University, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), the University of Fraser Valley, and the University of British Columbia.

Residents and visitors have a variety of great attractions and things to do in and around the city of Pitt Meadows, as well as attractions in nearby towns like Maple Ridge. Enjoy a game of golf at one of several golf courses in the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge area, including popular ones like Pitt Meadows Golf Club, Meadow Gardens Golf Course, Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club, Golden Eagle Golf Club, Maple Ridge Golf Course, and Meadows Golf Centre.

There are also several museums, art galleries, and other cultural attractions in the city and surrounding areas, including Cineplex Odeon (a massive movie theatre located inside Meadowtown Centre shopping mall on Lougheed Highway), the Arts Centre & Theatre (situated in nearby Maple Ridge), the Pitt Meadows Museum, and the Maple Ridge Art Gallery which is housed in the Arts Centre & Theatre building.
