Employment Opportunities

With 85% of Pitt Meadows residents commuting outside the city for work, employment within the city is scarce and limited to industries like agriculture and farming, education services, construction, and hotel/food services. The three main employers in the city are School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, the Meadowtown Centre shopping mall, and blueberry and cranberry farms.
Unemployment is low in Pitt Meadows at just 4.5%, compared to the higher province rate of 6.4% as of 2015.

Shopping

There are several malls in and around the Pitt Meadows area, including Meadowtown Centre that borders with the neighbouring town of Maple Ridge, Meadow Vale Shopping Centre, Westgate Shopping Centre, Haney Place Mall, Meadow Ridge Shopping Centre, and Valley Fair Mall. Mid Meadows is also in close proximity to Lougheed Highway, where many other retail stores are located.

There are also several excellent dining venues located within Pitt Meadows and also in nearby Maple Ridge, including sushi places, steakhouses, fast food favorites, pizzerias, and more. Residents and guests can nosh on delicious pizza at Papa Leo’s, have upscale cuisine and drinks at the Loft at Meadow Gardens Golf Club, or enjoy family and friends with family-style dining at the Stomping Grounds Café & Bistro. Other options include Akasaka Japanese Restaurant, Lava Dining & Lounge, Big Feast Bistro, and Frogstone Grill.

Schools

Residents’ children in Mid Meadows are served School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, which currently has four elementary schools and one secondary school in Pitt Meadows. The four elementary schools are Davie Jones Elementary, Edith McDermott Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, and Pitt Meadows Elementary. Pitt Meadows Secondary School is well-known in the area for its sports programs, including football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

Transportation

Public transportation options in Pitt Meadows include West Coast Express commuter trains which connect the city to Mission and Vancouver, as well as the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline (which bisects the city). The Golden Ears Bridge connects the city and Maple Ridge to Langley and Surrey, while the Pitt River Bridge connects to Port Coquitlam which is to the west of Pitt Meadows.
There is also a small airport located within the city (Pitt Meadows Airport which opened in 1963) and offers passenger service to local and regional destinations. The airport also has a skydiving school serving local and other skydiving students.

Attractions and the Arts

Pitt Meadows and neighbouring Maple Ridge have lots of attractions to choose from, including excellent golf courses, museums, art galleries, parks and trails, and much more. Scenic golf courses include Meadow Gardens Golf Club, Golden Eagle Golf Club, Pitt Meadows Golf Club, Maple Ridge Golf Course, Swan-E-Set Bay Resort & Country Club, and Heather Hills Golf Course.

Attractions in and around Pitt Meadows include Leghorn Ranch (a great place for families with children), Hopcott Farms, Pitt Polder Ecological Reserve, Blue Heron Winery, Cineplex Odeon, Jungle Jac’s Playcentre, Golden Ears Provincial Park, Alouette Lake, the ACT Arts Centre, Theatre in the Country (local dinner theatre in Maple Ridge), and the Maple Ridge Museum.
