Starting out as a small farm community, the town of Cloverdale in Surrey, British Columbia, has an agrarian history. The warm climate, coupled with the verdant lands and accessibility to freshwater streams, helped the little community thrive.
The very first resident of Cloverdale was Mr. William Shannon, who, in 1875, bought 960 acres of land from the Government and gave the town its name – inspired by the fields of clover that were here in plenty.
One of the prominent heritage towns in Surrey, Cloverdale is home to many historical sites of repute, such as the 1881 Town Hall (the first-ever Town Hall built in Cloverdale), the Anderson Cabin (Surrey’s oldest surviving building) and the Bose Family’s many farmsteads, house and parks (one of the oldest families in Surrey who set-up roots in 1890), amongst others.
A tightly-knit community of lively and welcoming people, the population of Cloverdale stands at 65,645. It is the second-highest earning town in Surrey, with a median household income of $103,177.

Recreation
A centre of art, music and theatre, the town of Cloverdale offers immense entertainment and recreational opportunities to residents. The Cloverdale Recreation Centre functions as the heart of the town, and all town festivities and meetings are organised here.
The Cloverdale Fairgrounds are a legacy unto themselves – playing host to many exciting events, like Lollapalooza and Canada’s second-largest rodeo- Cloverdale Rodeo and County Fair.
The Surrey Little Theatre and Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre put on shows every day, some of which are specifically produced for little ones. The town is also home to restaurants, pubs, breweries and cafes. These keep the weekends exciting and fun.

Cloverdale has a robust academic history. The town’s first school was built in 1882. Today, the town has many good schools, like Cloverdale Traditional, Cloverdale Catholic School and Cloverdale Learning Centre. Kwantlen Polytechnic University is the primary higher education institution for trade and technology studies.

Cloverdale also has a reputable selection of hospitals and nursing homes. The Amherst Hospital & Nursing Home, Care Life Fleetwood and Surrey Hospital Foundation are within a short driving distance. There are a few veterinary hospitals and clinics in and around Cloverdale, as well.
