Clayton is one of Surrey’s newest suburbs, first developed in the early 2000’s. Its commercial centre was built just off the historic Fraser Highway, between Surrey’s Central City and downtown Langley. This location makes it a convenient home for commuting residents, who love the easy access to Metro Vancouver’s major highways. But it’s not just a nice place to park at night: Clayton provides residents with several footpaths surrounded by green space so they can enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
One of the main neighbourhoods of Surrey, British Columbia, Clayton is a delightful place to live in. Located in the heritage area of the town centre of Cloverdale, Clayton has become a favourite with home buyers for its amazing vibe and personality. In fact, this neighbourhood is one of the hottest areas for homebuyers in Surrey today.
West Clayton – The most sustainable neighbourhood in Surrey
A primarily agricultural landscape with lots of farms and woodlands, West Clayton is now in the cusp of immense developmental activity.
West Clayton is the very first neighbourhood in Surrey to offer incentives and tax rebates to homeowners and companies for reducing their carbon emissions. The neighbourhood follows a plan of sustainability in everything it does. This ensures that clean air, lush trees and clean water are always available.
West Clayton is relatively new on the market. The neighbourhood was designed in 1996, although proper construction started later in 2015. That’s why the houses in West Clayton are suited for those more contemporary in aesthetics.
East Clayton – A haven for the kids
The first part of the Clayton neighbourhood to be built, East Clayton, has become home to many young working families. Households with children, in particular, find East Clayton to be a very affordable and safe place to live.
This part of Clayton also has very child-friendly establishments, like Fiona's Playdate Café, which has an indoor play area for toddlers. East Clayton also has better connectivity to the rest of Surrey, compared to West Clayton. There is also a project in place to build a SkyTrain station in East Clayton.
There are numerous parks and biking trails in East Clayton. Almost every property on sale has a yard or garden attached to the house, where the kids can play.
Recreation
Clayton Park is the primary public park in the neighbourhood, and it was built in 1939. The park has the famous Clayton Hall on its grounds, where residents can play lawn tennis, lawn bowling, soccer, basketball and other sports. There are also designated picnic spots here, and they make for the best weekend visit.
The Clayton Dog off-leash Park is the perfect place to go if you have a fur baby. The Cloverdale Recreation Centre is just a walk away; so is the Greenaway Outdoor Pool. The Greenaway Outdoor Pool is located just behind the Clayton United Church, and it hosts brilliant plays.
Education
Some of the best schools near Clayton are Fraser Valley Elementary School and Credo Christian High School. Clayton is served by School District 36 Surrey.
