The days are getting longer and warmer, the leaves are on the trees and the birds are singing. This can only mean one thing: the 2014 season of Theatre Under the Stars is nearly here! TUTS has a long history of presenting wonderful family-friendly performances and this year will certainly be no exception. 

This season the ensemble will perform two shows, both based on motion pictures popular in the first decade of the 21st century. The opening performance is based on the kid's film from DreamWorks Entertainment, named for the title character, Shrek. The following night, the second of the year's selections will open. This one is a performance of the MGM film Legally Blonde, adapted from the novel by Amanda Brown. Though considerable different, both shows offer something for everyone.

TUTS Performance of Shrek: The Musical

The season opens on Friday, July 11 with a preview of Shrek: The Musical. Shrek is a fairy tale that tells the story of a lonely ogre on a quest for his soul mate Fiona. Like all quests, a worthy travelling companion is necessary. Fortunately Shrek is accompanied by his friend Donkey. Without spoiling the story, I think it's safe to assume a happy ending will be had by, at least most of the characters. For very small children, this is the recommended performance, and one that will be well known to most kids.Shrek July Dates

TUTS Performance of Legally Blonde: The Musical

Legally Blonde: The Musical is also a fairy tale of sorts, though set in the modern world "real" world. It tells the story of Miss Elle Woods, who pursues her heart breaker of a boyfriend all the way to Harvard Law School. To say that Elle is not your typical Harvard Law student is perhaps an understatement. 

Though small children may not fully get the message, they will still enjoy the shows thanks to Elle's always present sidekick and partner, her valiant Chihuahua, Bruiser. Bruiser's fashion show is sure to keep the kids entertained.
