As a rural residential farming district, the Upper Squamish area is located between the Tantalus Mountain Range close to Tantalus Provincial Park. North of the city center of Squamish, British Columbia, the area is comprised largely of wilderness but much of the land is privately owned. Settled around 1910 when the Pacific Great Eastern Railway was constructed, the industries of the area have largely been pulp and forestry. In recent years, the area has become a popular region for tourism and outdoor adventure.
Community Resources and Recreation
With Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park and Tantalus Provincial Park located close by, Upper Squamish is home to many recreational activities that range from canoeing, kayaking, hiking, trail-walking, rock climbing and mountain biking. In nearby Lower Squamish, water sports like swimming, windsurfing, kite boarding and fishing are popular during the warmer months. There are few cultural amenities within the community, but the Brackendale Art Gallery, the Squamish Public Library and the Britannia Mine Museum are all nearby.

Local Access and Public Transportation
The main road that provides access to the Upper Squamish community is a logging access road that is not paved. Beyond this, the Upper Squamish area runs alongside the Sea to Sky Highway, which provides access to the interior of British Columbia and the amenities of the Lower Mainland to the south.
Education: Elementary and Secondary Schools
There are no schools located within Upper Squamish, but there are number of elementary schools such as Mamquam, Brackendale, Stawamus and Valleycliffe Elementary. There are also two secondary schools, Howe Sound and Don Ross.
