Middlepoint Real Estate and Home For Sale
Located to the south of mainland British Columbia along the Strait of Georgia, the area of Middlepoint is found along the shore of the Sunshine Coast region. While the Coast Salish people originally inhabited the area, it began to be settled by way of fishing, logging and farming in the 1880s. The pulp and paper mill in Powell River was established around 1910, and by 1930 it was the largest newsprint mill in the world. While forestry and tourism are the main industries today, the area has become a popular getaway from nearby Vancouver but has maintained its peacefulness since it is only accessible by ferry.
Community Resources and Recreation
With its location along the shore, Middlepoint is a popular area for many recreational activities including kayaking, canoeing, boating and fishing. Spipiyus Provincial Park and Tetrahedron Provincial Park are close by for trail walking and biking. For a cultural experience, the Elphinstone Pioneer Museum in Gibson offers a unique look at the history of the area and the Coast Salish people.
