Over the past few years Chinese New Year has been a very busy time with many motivated and ready to buy investors snapping up hundreds of properties.  As the past CEO of a mostly Chinese based company, I saw first hand the incredible buzz it created in our real estate market.

Chinese New Year 2018 Dates.

The 2018 Chinese New Year begins on Friday, February 16.  The celebrations usually last for over two weeks. Chinese New Year takes place on a different date each year because it is based on the lunar calendar.  New Year's Day normally falls between January 21 and February 20.

How is the Chinese New Year celebrated?

There are many festivities including bell ringing, lighting firecrackers, and watching traditional lion dances. There is a reunion dinner where Chinese families gather together on New Year's Eve.  Just prior to the dinner they clean their houses to sweep away bad fortune on New Year's Day.

It's tradition to give the children red envelopes stuffed with money they call lucky and many positive wishes on  the actual New Year's Day.

Technology is making the money giving easier with some apps that allow for easy funds transfer to accomplish the same objective digitally.

2018 will be the Year of the Dog.

Although each of the 12 animals gets an outing every dozen years, there are different varieties - and 2018 will be the first year of the earth dog since 1958.

Do you know what the other 11 animals are?  And how do you feel this year's Chinese New Year will impact the Vancouver real estate market?
