The 190,000+ population of Richmond continues to grow steadily (increasing 9% between 2006 and 2011), and West Cambie is one of the neighbourhoods expected to grow significantly. The city is currently in the process of implementing a long-term plan to ensure that the neighbourhood is a "complete" area, featuring plenty of commercial, educational, recreational and retail spaces while maintaining the excellent residential spaces that already exist. Taking the Moray Bridge to Sea Island enables residents to reach the Vancouver International Airport in just a few minutes' time.
Within West Cambie, children attend school at Kathleen McNeely Elementary, RC Talmey Elementary or Tomsett Elementary, all of which feed into the Cambie Secondary School. Many of these are within walking distance, giving parents the opportunity to walk their children to and from school each day if they want. Parents who desire an alternative to public schools can take advantage of the Blue Spruce Montessori School, which is also in the West Cambie neighbourhood.
The Richmond Cultural Centre is one of the best places in Richmond to visit for those in the mood to check out some fantastic art. It's just 11 minutes away by car from the West Cambie neighbourhood. On the first floor of the Cultural Centre, visitors can explore a range of information and artifacts from Richmond's history and the history of the Fraser River. On the second floor, they will find the Richmond Art Gallery, featuring an ever-changing exhibit of fine contemporary art, created by local and national artists. Throughout the city are public art installations residents can enjoy free, created by more than 80 local artists.
The Chinese Cultural Centre, located right in the West Cambie neighbourhood, is also a fascinating place to check out art and history. Another fantastic option is the Gateway Theatre, Richmond's only professional live theater. Here, visitors can laugh it up with a comedy, enjoy a stunning opera or jam out to live music acts. Those who want a little more art in their daily lives can enroll in classes of all kinds (including those for children), such as voice and acting lessons.
Residents of West Cambie have a huge variety of recreational options and attractions within the city of Richmond. Being a coastal city, there are beaches and public areas for recreation, swimming, fishing and water sports. There are also a variety of trails throughout the city, providing the perfect opportunity for residents to hike, cycle or explore. The Richmond Nature Park is right in the West Cambie neighbourhood, and features 200 acres of land along with 5km of trails to explore. There is even an elevated boardwalk trail that is wheelchair accessible. The West Cambie Community Centre is definitely worth checking out; it's located beside the HJ Cambie Secondary School and offers up three gyms, a fitness centre and fitness studio, a games room and a meeting room. Nearby Fun 4 Kidz is a great place for the children to get exercise and have fun! The facilities include an interactive obstacle course, ball courts, zip lines and a suspension bridge, and even a toddler area for very small children.
West Cambie is a paradise for young professionals, young couples and families, and investors. The area isn't yet fully developed, but interest in Richmond has ensured that it will not be long before those undeveloped areas are bustling with residential construction.
