In the southwest corner of Lulu Island, Richmond, is a quaint little village full of character and charm. Some might even say Steveston Village is magical. It is, after all, the backdrop of ABC's Once Upon a Time and locations in Steveston Village make up the show's fictional town of Storybrooke. Steveston Village was once home to 15 canneries, and played the role of a busy fishing port. Today, the canneries are closed and areas that were once commercial have been turned into a variety of residential spaces, including townhouses, condos, and single-family homes full of character and charm.
Although located in the lower mainland's fourth most populous city, stepping into Steveston Village is like stepping back in time, and it offers the chance for locals to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, even if it is just coming home to the laid-back, coastal community after a day's work. Although the entire area of Steveston is home to about 25,245 individuals, Steveston Village represents just a small amount of those people. The area is still very much a fishing village, and although a relaxed and peaceful area, is becoming a popular tourist attraction and some days bring in thousands of visitors. Residents of the area live in close proximity to beach access, enjoy plenty of recreational activities and locations, with some of the most delicious dining in Richmond, and a variety of options for shopping.
