With more than 15 elementary schools and a handful of secondary schools in Maple Ridge, the children of this city are well served. Those living in the Southwest neighbourhood attend either Maple Ridge Elementary or Fairview Elementary, and the Maple Ridge Christian School is also nearby for those who want an alternative to public school. The schools in Maple Ridge are known for providing excellent care to students, with focuses on the way each individual student learns and on major industries like technology. Those seeking post-secondary education can take advantage of Douglas College, Sprott Shaw College and BCIT, all of which are available in Maple Ridge.
Locally, residents can enjoy the exhibitions at the ACT Arts Centre as well as the Maple Ridge Art Gallery. A slew of recreational opportunities exists within Southwest. Tolmie Park is the neighbourhood park, and the perfect place for parents to bring their smaller children to get some exercise and fun time in. Trails can be accessed from several roads in Southwest, including Ospring Street. These trails are perfect for cycling, hiking and exploring. Outside of the neighbourhood, residents can take advantage of the numerous rivers and creeks which allow water sports, swimming, fishing, canoeing and more.
In addition, trails are present all over the city and invite mountain biking, hiking and exploring. The Malcolm Knapp Research Forest is an excellent place to explore, as they feature several colour-coded trails (based on physical ability and stamina) that all lead back to a central hub.
Southwest is a highly-sought after neighbourhood because it appeals to everyone; families, single professionals, young couples, retirees and even investors.
