Riverwood is a highly-sought after neighbourhood in Port Coquitlam, located above the area where the Pitt River and Lougheed Highway intersect, staying south of the crescent created by Barberry, Ellis and Cedar Drives. There is a fairly even mix of single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings, with a few duplexes and semi-detached homes available. The average age of the homes in the neighbourhood are 20 years. Approximately 90% of residents own their homes, and the average household income is about $80,000 per year. The Riverwood Community is literally surrounded by shopping and dining options. Lougheed Highway and Coast Meridian Road feature clusters of restaurants, diners, cafes, pubs and retail shops - all of which are just minutes away outside Riverwood. Restaurant options include Indian, Italian, Chinese, Greek, Mediterranean and other cuisines. In addition to the numerous dining options, residents can enjoy a variety of excellent shopping options as well. Central City Shopping Centre, Westwood Mall and Coquitlam Centre are just a few of the major outlets located within fifteen minutes of Riverwood. The downtown area of Coquitlam also offers plenty of antique and novelty shops.

Transportation

Coast Meridian Road, Lougheed Highway and Shaughnessy Street are all major roads surrounding the Riverwood neighbourhood. Using these, residents can easily access nearby cities and communities. The SkyTrain is another fantastic option, providing regular trips to Vancouver, Coquitlam and Port Moody. Individuals can take the TransLink buses virtually anywhere within Port Coquitlam, as well. Because of the location of Riverwood, it is absolutely possible to walk and bike to nearby retail shops for the basic necessities.

Schools

Within the Riverwood neighbourhood are several schools serving families and children. Blakeburn and Cedar Drive Elementary are within walking distance for many children and their parents, and Terry Fox Secondary School serves the neighbourhood as well. Private schools include Hope Lutheran Elementary and Archbishop Carney Secondary, one of the highest-rated schools in the Port Coquitlam area. Individuals with post-secondary school options will appreciate the close proximity of Douglas College and Simon Fraser University.

The Arts

The British Columbia Conservatory of Music and the Terry Fox Theatre are both located within the Riverwood neighbourhood. Nearby are the Broadway Bound Performing Arts Studio, the Giggle Dam Dinner Theatre, Second Storey Theatre and Lasting Arts. Numerous festivals take place annually in Port Coquitlam which allows residents to celebrate the arts and culture of the area. The Cultural Festival celebrates local up-and-coming as well as established artists as well as the history of the area. The Music in the Park festival takes place in Lions Park, offering a variety of outdoor concerts.

Recreation/Sports

Numerous parks dot the Riverwood community, offering plenty of opportunities for families to get out and enjoy nature, whether they want to hike, bicycle, have a picnic or spend time with the family dog. The Carnoustie Golf Club is located in the Riverwood neighbourhood, so it's a perfect location for golf aficionados. The Club also includes practice areas and squash courts. Perhaps the most inviting outdoor location near Riverwood is the Traboulay PoCo Trail, which offers a network of trails where locals spend time hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and just exploring the beauty of nature.
