Just north of the Lougheed Highway and southwest of the Port Coquitlam Cemetery is the gorgeous neighbourhood of Oxford Heights. The major streets in the area of Oxford Heights are Lougheed Highway, Shaughnessy Street and Coast Meridian Road. Easy access to the Trans-Canada Highway is available for Oxford Heights Residents who drive, and those who don't can enjoy the SkyTrain station which offers regular trips to Vancouver, Coquitlam and Port Moody. The TransLink bus routes are also very convenient, and stops are located along the Coast Meridian Road, Wellington Street and Lincoln Avenue.
Irvine Elementary is located within the heart of the Oxford Heights neighbourhood, so it is within walking distance for most residents. Other schools that serve the area include Minnekhada Middle School, École Kwayhquitlum Middle School, and Leigh Elementary School. Postsecondary options in the area include Douglas College, which offers a variety of degree options, and Simon Fraser University. Both are within an hour's drive from Oxford Heights.
Oxford Heights residents who want to take the opportunity to enjoy the local arts scene can take advantage of the Cultural Festival, which happens each year, and celebrates local artists and the history of the city. Lions Park is host to the Music in the Park festival each year, and the city of Port Coquitlam offers up theaters, live performance venues and galleries as well.
Parks are located throughout the Oxford Heights neighbourhood, including Wellington Park, Chelsea Park and Victoria Park - all fantastic locations to picnic, hike, ride bicycles and explore. The Traboulay PoCo Trail is easily accessed from this neighbourhood, and is perfect for the more adventurous individual who loves hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. In addition to these options, Port Coquitlam offers up numerous recreational centers as well as the Carnoustie Golf and Racquet Club.
Investors are beginning to take a serious interest in Port Coquitlam for a number of reasons. While the growth in the area is steady, it is not happening as quickly as some of the nearby areas, such as Port Moody. This means that there is still a ready supply of single-family homes as well as multi-family homes within the area.
