The Northeast neighbourhood in Maple Ridge is located above Dewdney Trunk Road, and offers up a variety of amenities. Haney Place Mall offers hundreds of retailers, including the trendiest stores for apparel, accessories, home decor, health and beauty supplies and professional services as well. Shops within the downtown area offer antiques, art, novelties and gifts. Restaurants are in abundance all through the city, especially along the Dewdney Trunk Road in downtown. Residents can find Asian fare, Greek Cuisine, Italian specialties and so much more. Fresh seafood is also quite a popular offering amongst restaurants here, such as the Kingfisher Pub, where guests can enjoy waterfront dining.
Northeast Maple Ridge is car-dependent, so most residents utilize their own vehicles to get around, but throughout the city there are public transportation options as well. The TransLink buses pick up frequently and run routes all over the city. Dewdney Trunk Road is the major through-road for the Northeast neighbourhood, and allows residents to reach most other neighbourhoods. The Vancouver International Airport is less than an hour away, but most residents utilize the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport, which is just minutes away from this neighbourhood.
The children of Northeast Maple Ridge attend Webster's Corners Elementary. Many residents are within walking distance of the school, so they are able to walk their children to and from school each day. This school empties out into Garibaldi Secondary school. Maple Ridge is known for having excellent schools that focus on important industries like technology and allow children to learn at their own pace with customized instruction. Post-secondary options for Northeast residents include Douglas College, BCIT and Sprott Shaw College.
Within Maple Ridge, the main art draw is the ACT Arts Centre. It's quite common for families and individuals to visit and check out a number of live performances throughout the month in one of the centre's excellent theatres. Many residents also enrol here to learn more about different artistic mediums, from drawing to pottery. The Maple Ridge Gallery is also a popular visiting spot, where residents can check out exhibitions featuring emerging artists, including local artists from Maple Ridge.
For the family or individual that loves nature and thrills, Maple Ridge offers up a slew of choices. Trails and dykes are threaded throughout the city, enabling residents from all neighbourhoods to enjoy horseback riding, hiking, cycling and exploring. Water sports at nearby rivers and lakes (including Alouette Lake, closest to Northeast residents) are available, as well as fishing and picnicking. The Golden Provincial Park is a major draw for residents and tourists, featuring colour-coded trails that range from novice hiker level to expert. The entire city is a virtual playground, with adrenaline pumping thrills waiting to be found in every corner; Pitt Meadows Airport is home to a skydiving company and a skateboard park nearby offers plenty of chances to try out the newest tricks.
As Maple Ridge continues to grow, development will spread out to the bordering neighbourhoods like Northeast, bringing more single-family and multi-family housing options.
