On the southwest mainland coast of British Columbia is the City of Langley; a thriving, beautiful city that proves wonderful things do come in small packages. In 2011, Langley City boasted an average family income of $77,507. The workforce is comprised of more than 13,500 individuals, and the unemployment rate is 6.7%. This is very close to Metro Vancouver's unemployment rate. A huge variety of industries employ Langley City's workforce, with the largest being retail trade. In fact, this industry employs about 14% of all workers in the city. This is followed closely by construction, employing 11% of workers, health care and social assistance at 10% and manufacturing at 9%. Other popular industries include wholesale trade, education, accommodations and transportation.
Residents of Langley City have a variety of options for shopping and dining. One excellent choice is the Willowbrook Shopping Centre, which is one of Metro Vancouver's largest shopping malls. More than 150 stores and professional services are available here, including all of the most popular retailers and eateries. It's just 21 minutes away by car, so it's easy to reach from anywhere in the city. A variety of shopping options is also available along 200th Street near the Langley Bypass.

Learning to navigate Langley City isn't difficult; after all, it's just 4 square miles. The city is located between the Vancouver National and Abbotsford International Airports, and has its own regional airport offering up chartered flights. The Trans-Canada Highway is very easily accessible and there are 4 nearby border crossing options for visiting the US. Public transportation options include buses which pick up quite frequently and local shuttle services.
Children living in Langley City attend one of 6 elementary schools which all funnel into one secondary school. The schools here place a priority on academic achievement but focus also on social and personal development as well as community involvement. Fine arts programming, French immersion and ESL schools are available in Langley City. Langley Community Music School is located here, which is quite well known and features a 250-seat recital hall. Those seeking higher education can take advantage of Kwantlen Polytechnic University which accommodates 4,500 students. The Township of Langley, nearby, offers up post-secondary education as well.
Residents of Langley City come out in droves to see the Langley-Cruise-In car event held each September, and the Arts Alive Festival is held in August. This Festival celebrates all things art, giving residents the chance to meet and enjoy local artists and to celebrate various mediums and styles. The Langley Ukulele Ensemble Calls Langley home, and is a talented and magnificent musical ensemble.
When it comes to recreation and sports, few do it as well as Langley City. neighbourhood playgrounds are dotted here and there, and more than 17 public parks exist here. Nature trails where families and individuals can explore, hike, or cycle are present everywhere. The Douglas Recreation Centre, Al Anderson Memorial, Langley Library and Cascades Casino are all great options for recreation and entertainment.
Langley City truly does have something that appeals to everyone, regardless of age. With excellent family-friendly environments and a tight-knit community, couples with children are especially drawn to the area. Excellent programs for seniors and the sense of family within the neighbourhoods are important and great for those over the age of 65. Investors are also drawn to the area, taking advantage of excellent prices and rising home values. Langley City is also quite popular with young professionals, featuring short commute times and a prime location for working in nearby cities.
