You’ll love how accessible nature is in Howe Sound. Shannon Falls is a well-known provincial park with hikes ranging from beginner to experienced. Howe Sound has dining variety. The Living Room restaurant’s seasonally changing menu boasts a commitment to local ingredients. They’ve created a casual fine dining experience. Other restaurants include The Waterfront Restaurant, with amazing views, and Smitty’s Oyster House, with fresh seafood.
Howe Sound offers the opportunity for your children to receive a first rate education. There are six public elementary schools and two secondary schools. Howe Sound Secondary School is known for its cycling and hockey academies. This community is also home to a French immersion primary school and a private secondary school, Coast Mountain Academy— renowned for its music program.
Highway 99 runs along the Eastern border of Howe Sound, and Squamish provides both local buses and service to Whistler. Parts of Howe Sound are also serviced by BC Ferries.
The larger communities in Howe Sound include Bowen Island, Gibsons and Langdale on the Sechelt Peninsula, Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay on the eastern shoreline and Squamish located at the head of the Sound. Several smaller communities are dotted throughout the area including Britannia, Furry Creek, Brunswick Beach, McNab Creek, Douglas Bay, Brigade Bay, West Bay, Sea Ranch and New Brighton.
Most of Howe Sound’s inhabitants live in Squamish, a community of about 15,000 people. About 15.8% of these people are visible minorities, according to the 2006 Canadian census. The median age is 37. The area is one of the fastest growing in B.C., having grown about 15% within five years.
