Post-Secondary education options are accessible for Garden City residents. With the University of British Columbia 30 minutes away and Simon Fraser University within a 50 minute drive, students have two nationally-acclaimed universities nearby.
Richmond’s cultural hub, Minoru Park, resides in a neighbouring community just 5 minutes from Garden City. Home to the Richmond Cultural Centre, the park contains the city’s library, museum, art gallery, and art centre. Here, visitors can view the exhibits showcasing contemporary art from Canadian and international artists, or catch a show of world-class opera.
Garden City Community Park is one of Richmond’s most visited recreational environments. Over 17 acres of park contain: a bike terrain park, large picnic area, skateboard park, tennis and basketball courts, an innovative playground and several playing fields. The park is host for local sporting events and gatherings.
Bicycle-friendly roads lead to designated cycling trails in neighbouring communities. A 1.5km pathway circuit resides in Garden City Community Park, wrapping around the lake for a peaceful walk by the water’s edge. An Arboretum is one of the park’s most special features, showcasing almost 100 trees of varying species from around the Pacific Rim.
Garden City has carved a place as one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Richmond. Family homes built in the 1980’s and 1990’s are large and sit on spacious lots, while a surge in building has given way to high rise condos and affordable townhouses.
