One of British Columbia's earliest communities, Fort Langley is a beautiful and historically-rich neighbourhood in the Township of Langley. The actual fort was built in 1839, and the surrounding neighbourhood is nestled on land surrounded by the Salmon River. Interestingly enough, Fort Langley is also considered the wealthiest and most educated neighbourhood in the township, with 19% of households reporting an annual income of $150,000 or more per year, which is higher than the township's 14% and higher than all other neighbourhoods. About 47% of residents possess a college or university diploma or degree, higher than the township's average of 40%. Throughout the Township of Langley, industries of all sorts thrive. The most popular include trade and manufacturing, construction, healthcare and educational services. With tourism growing in Fort Langley, a large number of residents have jobs in this industry as well.
For a smaller neighbourhood, Fort Langley boasts a variety of options when it comes to shopping and dining. The majority of shops and restaurants are located along Glover Road, between St. Andrews and the Bedford Channel Bridge. Hungry residents love to stop in at Jim's Pizzeria for casual dining on delicious pizzas, or visit the Lampliter Gallery Cafe for upscale dining in a beautiful and sophisticated atmosphere. While there are a variety of boutiques and shops (especially antique shops) along Glover Road, those who want to do some more serious shopping can take Glover Road 88th Avenue and head west, where they will find a host of shopping options. Popular retailers offering trendy clothing, accessories, home decor items and more are available along 88th Avenue near the Trans-Canada Highway.
Getting around Fort Langley is easy; residents typically use Glover Road to reach virtually any location nearby. The streets are in grid-fashion like most other neighbourhoods in the Township of Langley, making it easy to navigate. From Glover Road, residents can reach The Trans-Canada Highway, which is the quickest way to reach nearby cities like Vancouver, Coquitlam, Surrey and New Westminster. It's less than an hour's drive to downtown Vancouver, which makes Fort Langley very popular amongst professionals who want a peaceful, lavish home retreat from the crowding and nuisances of downtown Vancouver and other urban areas. TransLink buses operate throughout town, providing public transportation, but for the most part, Fort Langley is a car-dependent neighbourhood.
Children in Fort Langley attend Fort Langley Elementary and Fort Langley Junior Secondary schools. Also located in the neighbourhood is the Langley Fine Arts School. Individuals requiring post-secondary education can take advantage of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus located in the Township of Langley, as well as Trinity Western University, which is a private, Christian school.
Art, culture and history are rich within the neighbourhood of Fort Langley. The Fort Langley National Historic Park is a lovely place to explore, and features the restored 1839 fur trading post. The Langley Centennial Museum and the National Exhibition Centre and the BC Farm Machinery Museum are all just minutes away from homes in Fort Langley.
When it comes to art, residents can take advantage of a few different locations in the neighbourhood. The Birthplace of BC Art Gallery and The Fort Gallery are both located in the centre of town, off of Glover Road. A slew of recreational activities awaits residents of Fort Langley. The Sawmill Trail is present in the neighbourhood, and can be accessed by taking Glover Road to Billy Brown Road. The Fort to Fort Trail can is located along the banks of the Fraser River. Both trails offer hours of exploration, hiking, mountain biking and fun. Outside of the neighbourhood are a variety of recreational options as well, including the Brookswood Disc Golf Course and the Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club, perfect for golf lovers. The Campbell Valley Regional Park is an excellent option for those who love the outdoors; offering 20km of walking and hiking trails and 14km of horseback riding trails. Other amenities here include picnic areas, an off-leash dog park, and meeting facilities.
Fort Langley is one of the most beautiful, historical and luxurious neighbourhoods in the Township of Langley. Homes ranging from 3 to 6 bedrooms, featuring large and private yards and a host of amenities are quite common here. The neighbourhood draws in families who appreciate excellent schools, entertainment options and culture.
