Just 4km away from the neighbourhood, Richmond’s acclaimed Food Street offers a world of dining experience. Although only three blocks long, close to 200 unique restaurants line the streets, showcasing international fares.
One of East Cambie’s best selling features is its accessibility. Bus stops are placed throughout the neighbourhood to connect residents with the rest of Richmond and support student transportation. Running along the north side of the community, Bridgeport Road connects residents to the city’s main streets as well as to Vancouver International Airport. Highway 99 along the west perimeter allows a quick drive to Downtown Vancouver, or can be taken south for a trip to the U.S. border in under an hour.
East Cambie students may attend either Mitchell Elementary or Kathleen McNeely Elementary, centrally located in the community just off of King George Park. Alternatively, 3 additional public elementary schools surround the neighbourhood in close proximity.
H.J. Cambie Secondary School is home of the Crusaders and over 1000 Richmond students. With its roots tracing back to 1928, the school’s modern facilities are a point of pride for staff and students, and have been featured in various television shows.
Just a few short kilometres away from East Cambie, Minoru Park is a Richmond historical site and is the cultural centre for the city. Home to Richmond’s library, Richmond Museum, Richmond Art Centre, and the city’s art gallery, visitors to the centre are exposed to Canadian and international culture.
Recreation is important to the active, young families of East Cambie. At the centre of the neighbourhood, King George Community Park has many amenities for residents to enjoy. With 5 sports fields, 4 ball diamonds, multiple tennis courts, and basketball courts, sports enthusiasts have a place to test their skills and push their limits. For leisure, this large park also maintains a community garden, several playgrounds, a water play area, and picnicking grounds.
East Cambie is rich with green space, home to several parks - both large and small. King George park provides recreational space for the community’s residents on almost 30 acres of green-space with 3km of trail system.
Richmond Nature park sits at the bottom of the neighbourhood, preserving 200 acres of natural habitat. Visitors can enjoy the wonders of the outdoors, encountering plants and animals along 5km of walking trails.
As a community focused on preserving green-space and creating a family-friendly neighbourhood, expansion for the area is limited. This limited availability has the advantage of making East Cambie one of Richmond’s most desirable areas with steady demand.
