Recreation

The primary mode of recreation is skiing and other mountain adventure sports. The resort has numerous skiing trails for both amateur and advanced skiers. Telus Park was opened in 2004; it offers an exciting course that has something for everyone. For people who don’t know how to ski, the Ski and Snowboard School offers courses in skiing. Apart from this, Big White also has the largest tubing park in North America. Dog sledding, snowshoeing and ice skating are other activities that people can do here. A 60-foot ice climbing wall offers great fun for residents and visitors alike. Big White also has a central village that houses numerous cafes, pubs, restaurants and retail shops. Visitors and residents can walk down to the central village and spend their weekends and evening shopping and socializing. If your adventure sports rake up a hearty appetite, you can get your fix at The Woods Restaurant, Globe Cafe & Tapas Bar, or Gun Barrel Grill.

Education

Big White has only one school – the Big White Community School – which offers classes for K-9. For higher education, students need to go to the cities of Kelowna, Vernon, or Crawford, which are just an hour’s drive from the mountain. You can easily reach schools and colleges in these districts using public or private transport.

Healthcare

The Whitefoot Medical Clinic is located just a minute’s walk away from the Big White Ski Resort. The clinic offers comprehensive medical care facilities and is equipped to handle both skiing and non-skiing related conditions. For other hospitals (including vets), residents need to drive down to Kelowna.

Transportation

Big White is located 35 miles southeast of Kelowna. While there are no direct buses plying between the rest of the Okanagan Valley to Big White, there are many shuttles that do run from the airports in British Columbia to the resort. Many private operators too ply this hour-long route.
