The city of Maple Ridge offers a variety of thriving industries and was named the Number 5 Top Canadian Investment City, as well as the Number 2 Top British Columbia Investment Town several years in a row. Top industries include sales and services, art and culture, recreation, business and finance, tourism, technology and agriculture. The unemployment rate is just 4.6%, while staying steady at 6% for all of British Columbia. Metro Vancouver has projected that the population and number of jobs within the city will double by 2040. The average income is 28,647 CAD here, above 24,867 for the province.
Albion residents have a variety of shopping options located within 30 minutes of their area. The downtown Maple Ridge area offers up more than 600 shops, ranging from antiques and gifts to novelties. A particular favourite of residents is the area near Dewdney Trunk Road and 224th street, where used book shops, children’s clothing and toy stores, and plenty of dining options exist. The Haney Place Mall and Valley Place Mall are two of the area’s largest shopping options, boasting some of the trendiest and most well-known retailers for clothing and accessories, shoes, gifts and more.
When it comes to dining, Maple Ridge offers up something for every taste. Albion residents can enjoy traditional pub fare, like cheeseburgers and fries, or can opt for fine-dining options in a variety of flavours and influences. Indian cuisine, Asian fare and even Greek dining is all within close proximity of the Albion neighbourhood. A favourite of locals, and located right in the Albion neighbourhood, is the Kingfisher’s Waterfront Bar and Grill, where residents enjoy craft beer, fine wines, live music and delicious foods. One of the best benefits is the waterfront dining on one of Kingfisher’s seasonal patios.
Those in the mood for fresh seafood can take advantage of Bruce’s Country market, located in Albion, where they can get fresh wild salmon and check out the variety of other seafood and gift options.
The area of Albion is a car-dependent neighbourhood, although those who want to utilize public transportation have plenty of options for doing so. Throughout the neighbourhood and the rest of Maple Ridge, TransLink buses operate with regular routes and pickups, and Albion residents can also take advantage of the West Coast Express. Highway 7 runs right along Albion, providing access to nearby Pitt Meadows and Mission. The main through-road is 240th Street, which provides access to most smaller streets and areas within the neighbourhood. The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is just 2.5 kilometres from Maple Ridge, and is beneficial for those requiring travel by plane.
Albion is served by the Maple Ridge School District number 42, which operates 18 elementary schools and 5 secondary schools throughout Maple Ridge. Albion children attend Albion Elementary School, which feeds into Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary. There are a variety of private school options throughout Maple Ridge, and higher education options include BCIT, Douglas College, and Sprott Shaw College.
Albion residents take advantage of Maple Ridge’s thriving art scene, as well as the numerous historical locations within the area. The Maple Ridge Museum is an excellent place to check out the area’s history, and it features a model railroad diorama, a vintage telephone exchange and more. The Pitt Meadows Museum is also very nearby, and gives families and individuals the chance to check out historical artifacts like pioneer memorabilia. The Act Arts Centre is an excellent place for Albion residents to visit if they love art; it is home to live theatre, as well as a variety of art classes, including 3D pottery and 2D drawing classes. The Poscenium Theatre and Black Box Studio Theatre are excellent options for live performances and shows, and the Maple Ridge Gallery offers up exhibits featuring the work of local artists and art students.
With its location near the Fraser River and Golden Ears Mountain makes Albion an outstanding location for all recreation types. Plenty of parks throughout the city of Maple Ridge offer prime ground for hiking, cycling and horseback riding, while the city’s six championship golf courses provide a playground for golf aficionados. The Golden Ears Park is an excellent option for those who want to explore, fish, enjoy other water sports and more. It spans 154,540 acres and offers a huge network of trails as well as 400 campsites.
Residents searching for a thrill can enjoy the Pacific Skydivers, located at the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport, or can try out their favourite tricks at the Thomas Haney Skateboarding Park. WildPlay, the perfect place for families with children, offers up swinging ropes, suspension bridges, and other fun attractions and options to enjoy. Albion residents also show up for the various festivals held throughout the city, including the Art in the Park festival held in September, and the Local Art Studios Tour in April.
Albion, offering a blend of older homes that are perfect for renovations, as well as some newer developments with multi-family housing options, is a neighbourhood with broad appeal. Still a developing area, Albion is currently being improved under a Maple Ridge initiative, with things like traffic, sidewalks, housing and recreation being focused on. As the area grows in population and jobs, the Albion neighbourhood will grow as well, and property values will increase.
